Dr Wallace Heim

Wallace Heim specialises in researching and enabling public engagement through the arts.  She investigates projects and productions in various art forms, particularly those that engage with ecological themes.  She also undertakes evaluations and feasibility studies.

Recent evaluations include those for 'Working in Public' for On the Edge / Robert Gordon University; for Newton and Helen Mayer Harrison's 'Greenhouse Britain' exhibition for DEFRA; and for 'Climate Change Explorer' for Creative Futures Cumbria / Helix Arts / DEFRA.

She is co-editor of the Ashden Directory of Environment and Performance, a project of the Ashden Trust, one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts.  She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a research fellow for the Social Sculpture Research Unit at Oxford Brookes University, and a Fellow of the Centre for Human Ecology, Scotland.  She is a Trustee for the social practice collective PLATFORM.

She writes on performance and ecology, and is an independent curator.  She was associate lecturer on the MA Arts + Ecology when the course was at Dartington College of Arts.  She co-curated the conference/event BETWEEN NATURE, Explorations in Ecology and Performance at Lancaster University in 2000.  She co-edited Nature Performed.  Environment, Culture and Performance (2003), published by Blackwell Publishing/Sociological Review.

Her PhD is in Philosophy from Lancaster University and she holds an MSc in Human Ecology from Edinburgh University.

Originally from Colorado, she has 20 years experience of production in theatre, film and television in the UK.
